ARVAL volunteer sorts membership mayhem
ARVAL brought IT skills to help local recycling charity Swindon Scrapstore save time and anguish managing their membership data.
Like other charities, Scrapstore kept its data on various spreadsheets, making it difficult to keep track of membership, renewals and prospective clients and wasting the valuable time of staff and volunteers, particularly when doing bulk mailings manually.
Scrapstore asked Involve Swindon for help and were soon contacted by Nigel from ARVAL with an offer of help. To their complete amazement, Nigel returned in just a few days with the first version of a brand new ACCESS database, appropriately named Scrapman.
In Debbie’s (from Scrapstore) words: “I cannot thank Nigel enough for his hard work, as I know that most of the time spent on helping the Scrapstore was done in his own time. Nigel has been so very helpful offering to return each time we have a query. Special thanks goes for his patience working with a computer illiterate Mel! We would also like to extend our thanks to ARVAL for allowing Nigel to volunteer his extraordinary skills. Having Scrapman has already saved many hours of valuable time. The reports and information will ensure the Scrapstore will continue to grow. I would recommend any charitable organisation to join Involve Swindon.”
From Nigel’s view, the experience was a positive one: “It has been a pleasure to offer my skills and experience to deliver a system which will help Scrapstore expand its operation and meet its mission of “Turning waste things into play things””.
