Fruit & Veg – Thames Water dig for Root & Branch
“Eight field-based staff from Thames Water wanted a team building event . Through Involve Swindon, I found them a project at local mental health charity Root and Branch, helping to re-net the fruit cage and dig some areas for vegetables. I’m really proud and impressed with this team challenge. It all went to plan, with brilliant feedback from the staff, as well as the charity. I was really happy working with Root & Branch. Faith, the manager knew what wanted doing, was extremely helpful in sending me all the information I required for the team, and invited me to visit beforehand so I could get a good idea of what needed doing.”
Karen Rudkin, Thames Water Community Investment Officer
“ A huge thank you to all the guys in the Thames Water team who came to help Root & Branch. They arrived early, full of energy & enthusiasm & worked really hard and fast. We were very impressed by their problem solving skills. They had good ideas of their own how to tackle our tasks, and got great results.
We’ve now got a nicely repaired and re-netted fruit cage, a finely dug cultivation area for more veg growing, and some extra smooth path edges too!’
Faith Mitchell, Root & Branch
Comment from the Thames Water volunteers:
‘I have never volunteered before. It’s rewarding knowing others will benefit from our efforts.’
‘It was great giving support to a worthwhile cause that has limited resources and having the satisfaction that you are making a difference to peoples lives.’
‘I really liked the sense of achievement. There was a noticeable difference when we finished’
‘An ideal opportunity to get together as a team and have some fun whilst helping worthwhile causes. it’s a more satisfying way of giving than simply putting your hand in your pocket.’
