A team of around 25 people from Nationwide spent a day helping South Marston Parish Council improve an overgrown area of woodland to make it more accessible. With support from Wiltshire Wildlife Trust who provided the project supervisors and tools, the team managed to complete all the tasks they were set. Councillor Barry Thunder said:
“Friday worked really well. The rain held off during the working sessions and we completed all five tasks. The two teams enjoyed competing against each other in the tree felling sessions and worked very hard to clear up after each work session.
We completed a woven fence by the old bridge, created a woodland glade and path to it. Cut back many of the fast growing bushes to create a better setting and finally cut old trees away from the stream to let in more light to the woodland floor. We also cleared approx 80 old tree supports and stakes
Our tented food area was popular with lots of cake and biscuits plus loads of hot drinks.
All cleared away by 3pm and the guys and girls then rushed off to the pub.”
