Trustees for Voluntary Action Swindon

We are pleased to have a settled and capable Board of Trustees who are working hard to ensure that VAS is sustainable and is doing the right things to support the voluntary sector in Swindon.

However, after nearly three years of little change in the composition of the Board, we believe it is the right time to look at strengthening its membership. The VAS constitution allows us to co-opt up to two Trustees between AGMs and so this is the route by which we want to recruit ‘new blood’ to the Board. Co-opted Trustees will then be put forward for election by members at the next AGM.

Our priority is to strengthen the skills available on the Board. We are particularly keen to hear from people who have skills and experience in legal matters; marketing and communications; or quality standards and control. In selecting Trustees, we are keen to ensure a move towards a Board that reflects the diverse Swindon communities and has a more balanced gender mix.

Voluntary Action Swindon (VAS) is the Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) in Swindon. A CVS is a charity which supports other charities and coordinates voluntary activity in the local area, as opposed to a frontline charity which supports individuals directly. A CVS is also a forum through which local voluntary and community organisations and statutory sector organisations can communicate with each other and work together.

Flexible time commitment – meetings arranged to suit Trustees

Swindon location

Trustees are expected to attend an induction session at VAS prior to their first Board meeting. Trustees are expected to attend all Board meetings. Board meetings are held approximately six times a year. One meeting each year is allotted to strategic planning and lasts a whole day. The board meeting will be held for two hours between 4:30pm and 6:30pm.  Papers are distributed one week in advance of meetings.

If you would like an informal discussion, please contact Richard Hill, CEO of VAS on 01793 538398, or by email at richard@vas-swindon.org
